Originally recruited from Hobart club cricket to cover for injured South African great Dale Steyn, 26-year-old Rauf has been taking the BBL by storm. An impressive run of 2-20, 5-27 and 3-24 have pushed him up to third on the competition’s leading wicket. Rauf took seven wickets in his first two games as Steyn’s reliever. The Melbourne Stars have cruised to a massive win over the Sydney Thunder at Sydney Showground Stadium.

Player-of-the-match, Nick Larkin told that “not too many guys like facing him (Rauf).”He’s pretty sharp and he doesn’t mind sending them in around your thigh and your ribs. He’s a passionate guy … he’s excited when he’s taking wickets and I think he’s really grateful to be playing in the BBL,” Larkin said in an interview after his breakthrough 45-ball 65 on a slow Showgrounds pitch against the Thunder

The Pakistani often makes this gesture after dismissing a batsman as a celebration, but not many are fascinated with this kind of celebration. Former Australian rugby league player Darryl Brohman in a s tweet posted thought the celebration was a “over the top.”Not sure we need the throat cutting gesture from Harris Rauf everytime he takes a wicket. Clearly a very good bowler but the post wicket antics are over the top,” Brohman tweeted.

Just few games ago, Rauf have won the netizens after his hearth-warming gesture towards an Indian security guard he met prior to the game. Now, he caused a stir with this controversial celebration that was tagged as “inappropriate” and “disgusting stuff” by social media users.

Rauf was not picked initially the BBL franchise meaning and with Steyn regaining fitness, he might lose his place in the side. However, he is set to remain with the Stars squad for the rest of the campaign. The Stars’ final regular-season game is on January 25, with the BBL finals beginning January 30.
