12BET India News: Ali Khan set to miss the rest of IPL 2020 season due to injury

USA pacer and Kolkata Knight Riders fast bowler Ali Khan, who is the first player from the USA to feature in the tournament, is set to miss the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 season after acquiring an injury. KKR is currently at the fourth position in the IPL standings with four points from four matches. Khan had replaced Harry Gurney last month after being ruled out following a shoulder injury.

“Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders signed up Ali Khan as a replacement for injured Harry Gurney. Khan became the first USA cricketer to be signed up by an IPL franchise. Unfortunately, Khan has since been injured and will miss the rest of the IPL 2020 season,” part of an official IPL statement sent to the media listing players from different franchises that had been ruled out of the tournament due to injury.

However, KKR’s chief executive officer Venky Mysore said while Khan’s injury was untimely, the franchise remained optimistic about his recovery. “While we are disappointed that he injured himself, KKR always does everything to take care of its players and therefore have asked him to stay on and are helping him with his recovery and rehab. Hopefully, he will recover fast,” Mysore told a news portal.

When Ali Khan was signed on by the KKR franchise, the pacer had become the first player from the USA to join an IPL franchise. The pacer burst on to the limelight during the 2018 Global T20 Canada, where he was spotted by star West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who brought him to the CPL. He had featured in the CPL All Star team that season.

The 29-year-old was also part of title-winning Trinbago Knight Riders squad – owned by the same parent company as KKR – in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), which was played in August-September. The Pakistan-born American had picked up eight wickets in the tournament. It was the fourth CPL title win for the TKR side. The pacer had picked eight wickets in eight matches at an economy rate of 7.43.
