12BET India News: BCCI confirmed India-England pink-ball Test schedule and venue for next year

12BET India News BCCI confirmed India-England pink-ball Test schedule and venue for next year

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah earlier this week has announced that Ahmedabad’s Motera Stadium will be hosting the day-night pink-ball Test between India and England on February 24. The four-match Test series will begin in Chennai from February 5. The ODI series will be held in Pune from March 23. Motera Stadium will host a couple of Tests along with five T20Is.

“The first Test will start from February 7 and the day-night Test will be played in Ahmedabad at the Motera Stadium from February 24. 5 T20I matches will be played in Ahmedabad’s Motera stadium,” Shah said while inaugurating Gujarat Cricket Association’s indoor academy. The match will be India’s second pink ball Test at home after the Bangladesh game at the Eden Gardens last year.

In a statement, the Board announced that M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will host the first two Tests in a bio-secured environment and Pune will host the three ODIs during the February-March series, as per BCCI’s rotational policy. It is learnt that a successful hosting of England series is a pilot test for a IPL at home after it had to be taken to UAE this year due to the threat of the coronavirus pandemic.

The England players are expected to reach Chennai by the last week of January after their series against Sri Lanka in January as the three-match ODI series will be held in Pune, from March 23. The England players with IPL contracts might also stay back as the 14th edition of the league is likely to start in March. The last time England toured India, they lost the Test series 0-4. India won the ODI and T20I.

“International cricket between India and England is a highlight of the cricketing calendar and always attracts significant levels of interest from fans around the world,” ECB CEO Tom Harrison said. “We have been delighted with the planning that has been undertaken by the BCCI to ensure the three venues in Chennai, Ahmedabad and Pune will be ready to host international cricket in a bio-secure environment.”

In 2019, the Virat Kohli side hosted Bangladesh in a historic day-night Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. They will take part in their second day-night Test against Australia, starting December 17. The match will be played in Adelaide. England, on the other hand, have played three pink-ball Test matches so far. The five T20Is will also be preparation for India’s upcoming T20 World Cup campaign at home.
