12BET India News: BCCI offers to host MS Dhoni’s farewell match following retirement announcement

Last week, two-time World Cup-winning former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni known as M.S. Dhoni has announced his retirement from international cricket, ending over one year of impressive cricket plays and an era of impeccable leadership. The announcement came a day after he joined his Chennai Super kings teammates in Chennai ahead of this year’s IPL in the UAE.
“Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout. from 1929hrs consider me as retired,” Dhoni posted on his instagram handle. The 39-year-old’s last outing in India was during the lost World Cup semifinal against New Zealand. Dhoni signs off as an ODI legend with 10,773 runs, averaging more than 50 despite batting between No.5 and 7 for a major chunk of his career.
Following his retirement, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is eager to host a farewell match to honour the excellence of Dhoni. According to a senior BCCI official, the governing body will discuss this proposal with Dhoni and plan it once the cash-rich tournament concludes in November. The title clash of IPL 2020 will be played on November 10. You also can look at our latest news about, England coach Silverwood backs earlier Test match starts at here!
“There is no international series right now, maybe after IPL we will see what can be done because Dhoni has done a lot for the nation and he deserves all the respect. We always wanted to have a farewell match for him but Dhoni is a different player. He announced his retirement when nobody was thinking of it,” the official said.
Asked if they had any word with Dhoni as of yet, the official said, “No, but surely we will speak to him during the IPL and that would be the right place to get his opinion about a match or series. Well, there will be a proper felicitation ceremony for him no matter if he agrees on it or not. That will be our honour to felicitate him.”
The call for a farewell game for MS Dhoni has come from the highest government levels, with Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren also demanding that a farewell game be staged for Dhoni at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association stadium in Ranchi. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Madan Lal, too, agreed on holding a proper farewell match for the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman.
