12BET India News India to quarantine in Sydney for Australia tour

The schedule for India tour of Australia has been confirmed following an agreement between Cricket Australia (CA) and the New South Wales state government. CA also announced the Indian touring team will quarantine in Sydney instead of Brisbane. Sydney and Canberra are set to host the limited-overs series before the teams head for the traditional Border-Gavaskar series.

Under the CA proposal, the Indian team, staff and families would travel via Dubai, where Indian and Australian players are currently playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). This quarantine proposal is waiting to be approved by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) before proceeding to the final approval, which is the responsibility of the Border Force Commissioner.

The Commissioner has previously provided international travel exemptions for the New Zealand Women’s cricket team and the New Zealand Warriors NRL side. In a statement, a Border Force spokesperson said: “ABF has not received an exemption request for the Indian cricket team to travel to Australia at this time.”

The tour is due to begin in mid-November. After the two-week quarantine, the team will play three one-day internationals, and three T20 internationals against Australia before beginning a four-Test series set down for Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. According to a report, the Test series will get underway in Adelaide with the Pink Ball match.

The Adelaide Oval match will take place between December 17-21, with Adelaide also the backup option for the Boxing Day Test should the Covid-19 situation not allow it to be held at the MCG. Otherwise Melbourne will be the venue for Boxing Day (December 26-30) followed by Tests in Sydney (January 7-11) and finally Brisbane (January 15-19).

Last month, the CA has announced that Australia’s one-off men’s Test against Afghanistan and the three-match ODI series against New Zealand has been postponed until the 2021-22 season, citing the threats of the coronavirus pandemic. The Test, which was to be Australia’s first against Afghanistan, was scheduled to be played in Perth in November.
