12BET India News Indian shuttlers Sindhu, Srikanth knocked out of BWF Tour Finals

Indian shuttlers P.V. Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth were out of contention for the knockout stage of the women’s and men’s singles respectively after losing their second-round matches in the BWF World Tour Finals in Bangkok. Sindhu lost in straight games against Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand, while Srikanth fought hard before going down to Tzu Wei Wang of Chinese Taipei in three games.

In the men’s singles, Srikanth enjoyed a 3-0 head-to-head against Tzu Wei ahead of the match but it mattered little as the Taiwanese World No. 12 rallied to a 19-21, 21-9, 21-19 win. “I have to figure out a way to pull out these close matches. I was dominating him for most part of the third game,” Srikanth said after losing yet another three-game contest.

“I think it’s about match practice, playing against top players continuously. We haven’t played for a year, and before that I wasn’t playing against top eight players continuously. I feel I’m almost there.” Wang and Anders Antonsen of Denmark entered the knockouts from men’s singles Group B with two wins each,” Srikanth added.

Srikanth will face Ng Ka Long Angus of Hong Kong on Friday. Either of them will not qualify. Viktor Viktor Axelsen of Denmark guaranteed his progress to the men’s singles semi-finals with a group game to spare. In men’s singles Group B, Anders Antonsen of Denmark and Wang Tzu Wei of Chinese Taipei made it to the knockout stage with two victories each

Meanwhile, the reigning world champion went into the contest against Ratchanok to bounce back from her loss in their last meeting.  Sindhu made a positive start, jumping to a 5-2 lead and then grabbed 11-6 lead at the break. However, she went down 18-21, 13-21 to the third seeded Thai. “It wasn’t my day. Losing the first game made the difference. My timing was a bit off, so a bit disappointed,” Sindhu said.

Sindhu will face Chochuwong on Friday and even if she wins it she will not qualify. Carolina Marin of Spain and An Se Young of South Korea qualified from Group A. Both Ratchanok and Tai Tzu Ying won one match each and they face each other on Friday. The winner of this tie will make it to the knockout stage. In the women’s singles Group ‘B’, P. Chochuwong won two matches to make it to the next stage.
