It’s the clash at the top of the table, as the Lucknow Super Giants face the Gujarat Titans for bugging rights. Gujarat will be looking to grab that top spot back, after seeing the Super Giants take that top spot away from them in recent days. Betting in India will be tough for this fixture, as it is hard to pick a winner between these two sides making their IPL debut this year.
There is added incentive to this game, with the winner becoming the first team to qualify for the playoffs this season. This should make it a cracking cricket match to say the least. All these subplots make this game a firecracker of the contest. Who will emerge victorious in this clash of the heavyweights?
Lucknow Super Giants
The Super Giants have now leapfrogged the Titans to the top spot in the points table, with a 4-game winning run all but sealing their spot in the playoffs. They have taken full advantage of the Titans’ dropping points. Their performance against the Knight Riders was as close to a perfect performance as it can get. Excellent with the ball, great with the bat, and they now will fancy themselves to keep hold of that top spot after such a brilliant season so far. All they need to do is play the same way, and not let their guard down.
After a run of five consecutive wins, Gujarat Titans now have two losses on the bounce against teams that are placed in the bottom half of the table. They played well in this last game, but those two run-outs changed the game. They were the better side for almost the whole game, but that is how the game works.
However, there is no real reason for the team to worry about it just yet.
They have been the form team of the tournament, and a couple of losses do not undermine the fact that they have been the better side in the majority of those games as well. The game against Mumbai was a good template for them going forward. It showcased their strengths while it also showed signs that they are getting better at aspects that need improvement.
The two sides met earlier this season, with Gujarat Titans emerging victorious after a nail-biter which went to the last over.
With Gujarat losing 2 straight, and Lucknow being virtually flawless in their 4-game streak, Lucknow is the clear favorite heading into this game.
