It is time to play for pride, as a crestfallen Mumbai Indians will play the Lucknow Super Giants, with only pride to play for. This is something you don’t really associate with the most successful IPL franchise to be doing halfway through their season. Lucknow, on n the other hand, will be looking to get a firm grip on the playoff places, as they seek to make the playoffs in their very first season showcasing some brilliant cricket.
If they do make it, it would be a brilliant achievement. In the last time, these two met, KL Rahul, made a masterful ton to lead them to victory, and the Giants will be hoping to have more of the same this time around as well. The team from Mumbai has been really poor with the cricket bat and will want to improve on that.
Lucknow Super Giants
The Super Giants suffered a setback in their last game, after losing to the Royal Challengers by 18 runs. For the first time this season, their much-heralded batting unit failed to deliver as none of them could capitalize on their starts, and perished in the pressure of the asking rate. This was a rare failure, and hopefully, this is a one-time thing and their batting once again will be back to their classy selves. The bowling has always been consistent, and against a side that is really struggling for form and confidence, they can be more than lethal.
Mumbai Indians
So close, yet so far. The quest for Mumbai’s first win goes on. They were oh so close against the Chennai Super Kings, their bowlers fired, their fielding was excellent, but it all went haywire in one poor last over, and then the inevitable happened, and once again they took a loss. There was a semblance of a performance today, with the changes working a treat, but pressing concerns at the top are the same. The openers aren’t firing, giving a lot of burden and pressure to the next batsmen in. The next seven games should be an opportunity to test the youngsters and the bench strength, with the hopes of playoff all but gone. As mentioned earlier, all they have to play for is pride.
Head-to-Head
Only one game was played between the two and Lucknow emerged victorious courtesy of a brilliant century by KL Rahul and some great bowling towards the death.
Prediction
With Mumbai downright woeful at this stage, and Lucknow on the verge of going through to the playoffs, it would be foolish to bet against Lucknow at this point, since they will definitely be the overwhelming favourites to win this.
