Punjab Kings will face off against Delhi Capitals in the 29th match of the Indian Premier League. The team from Punjab needs to really beat their rivals to stay in the competition. They have been disappointing in the IPL so far. On the other hand, the team from the capital has been playing some good live cricket. They are right there at the top of the points table.
The last time the two sides met, Delhi rode on Dhawan’s exploits to chase down a 198-run target. The Indian opener was brilliant with the cricket bat. While many talk about the solid 92-run knock by the Capitals’ opener, it is important to take into consideration that Punjab – without any batsman really playing an explosive knock – managed 198. Punjab Kings have many concerns to address this season. Their squad, which features some glittery stars, needs to come together and fire as a unit. The batting looks really dangerous from KL Rahul in the top to Shahrukh Khan down the order but the Kings will be waiting to see Chris Gayle fire soon.
Punjab Kings squad: KL Rahul (c/wk), Mayank Agarwal, Chris Gayle, Mandeep Singh, Prabsimran Singh, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Sarfaraz Khan, Deepak Hooda, Murugan Ashwin, Ravi Bishnoi, Harpreet Brar, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Ishan Porel, Darshan Nalkande, Chris Jordan, Dawid Malan, Jhye Richardson, Shahrukh Khan, Riley Meredith, Moises Henriques, Jalaj Saxena, Utkarsh Singh, Fabian Allen , Saurabh Kumar.
Delhi comes into this game with a thumping victory against KKR – pure Shaw show. While the team has mainly depended on its openers to fire, the batting lower the order looks solid too.
A heart-breaking 1-run loss against RCB showed that Delhi has depth and strength in their squad. When Dhawan and Shaw failed, Hetmyer and Pant took on the business to give Delhi a shot at winning. Shimon Hetmyer’s brilliant half-century comes at a crucial stage of the tournament. The capitalists would want to score a winnings streak and stay as close as possible to CSK and RCB at the top.
However, DC has a major concern to address in Kagiso Rabada’s form. The South African pacer has been struggling to get his yorkers right, he has gone for runs and the wickets column looks dry. Delhi might consider bringing back Chris Woakes.
Delhi Capitals squad: Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw , Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant (captain and wk), Shimron Hetmyer, Marcus Stoinis, Chris Woakes, R Ashwin, Axar Patel, Amit Mishra, Lalit Yadav, Pravin Dubey, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Ishant Sharma, Avesh Khan, Steve Smith, Umesh Yadav, Ripal Patel, Vishnu Vinod, Lukman Meriwala, M Siddarth, Tom Curran, Sam Billings
Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings have faced each other 27 times in the IPL. Delhi has won 12 matches while Punjab has won on 15 occasions.
The match in no doubt should be a victory for Delhi. They could use Punjab’s struggling form as a stepping stone to see Rabada come up and get back into wicket-taking ways. However, for Punjab to defy the odds, will have to silence Delhi’s batting order.
