A weary and jaded RCB find themselves facing a rejuvenated Chennai Super Kings, who have once again appointed MS Dhoni as their skipper. While RCB still are in with a shot of making the playoffs but will have to win their remaining matches with a massive margin to improve that NRR, which has taken a beating in their last few games. The IPL 2021 champs will want to keep wining and build momentum if they wish to qualify for the playoffs.
Chennai knows that their playoff chances are all but over, so will look to give a number of their players a chance. They will want to play a good cricket match, so that they may experience the IPL first-hand. This game could be academic in many senses unless RCB decides that they will have to go for broke, only then the game will be interesting. Or else, it has the feeling of a dead rubber, especially if CSK is concerned.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
The Royal Challengers have fallen into trouble right at the n most inopportune time that they could ask. They are on a losing run of 3 straight games, and two of them have arguably been the ugliest of their season, which puts a lot of doubt on their chances to progress in the playoffs. However, with Sunrisers losing their last game, this opens up a ray of hope for the Challengers to get back in the top-4.
They would be relieved to see Virat Kohli finally get amongst the runs, and will be hoping for him to keep gathering those runs because they will play a very crucial role in their season. They would also hope that Faf will get out of his lean funk and start scoring up the order as well. If all of this comes together, the Challengers are one of the most formidable teams in the league. All they need is one good game, and then it’s open season.
Chennai Super Kings
The Super kings started the Dhoni era with a rather comfortable victory, with all the changes working a treat, the openers getting amongst the runs, and the bowlers not giving the Hyderabad batsmen any margin for error. They kept on applying the pressure and got the victory that was deserving for their performance. Gaikwad and Conway battered the bowling to bits, with Conway never looking like a man playing only his 2nd IPL game. The Super Kings could very well be the team that spoils the party for a number of teams who are looking to make the playoffs, and that should make them a dangerous proposition in itself. Beware of the nothing to lose Super Kings.
Bangalore and Chennai have faced each other in 29 matches in IPL. Out of these 29 games, Bangalore has won 9 whereas Chennai has come out victorious on 19 occasions, and 1 no-result. In this IPl, Chennai won the fixture by 23 runs after scoring a mammoth 216-4 and restricting the royal Challengers to 193-9.
While Chennai does have the superior advantage in the history of the fixture, it is the Royal Challengers who will be the favorites in this game due to the overall form of both teams.
