BCCI announced schedule for the second leg of IPL 2020

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the new schedule for the remainder of the pandemic-postponed Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, which will be held in the UAE later this year. The 14th edition of the cash-rich T20 cricket will resume on the 19th September in Dubai with a clash between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. Follow us for more IPL 2021 news.
“The 14th season, which was postponed in May this year in the wake of the pandemic, will resume on 19th September in Dubai with a blockbuster clash between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians,” said the BCCI in a statement. A total number of 31 matches will be played in the duration of 27 days including seven doubles headers with 3 weekday double-headers and 4 weekend double-headers.
The first Qualifier will be played in Dubai on 10 October, while the Eliminator and Qualifier 2 will be played in Sharjah on 11 and 13 October respectively with Dubai hosting the final on October 15. Sharjah will host a total of 10 matches including 2 knock-out matches, while Abu Dhabi will stage a total of 8 matches, and none of the knock-out matches.
According to earlier reports, up to 30 percent fans could be allowed in the three stadiums – Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi – for the IPL Season 14 Phase-2. Before the postponement, Delhi Capitals cemented the top spot of the table with 6 wins from 8 games. They are followed by Chennai Super Kings with 5 wins from 2 games, RCB with 5 wins from 2 games.
At the time the IPL was suspended, there were still 31 matches, including the four playoffs, left to be played. The Indian Board is set to implement the same protocols that were drafted for the 2020 edition, while franchises are being asked to come up with plans on how to make their players available. In cases where players are not available, the board will hear “requests” from franchises to allot replacements.
The UAE has previously hosted the cash-rich T20 tournament in 2014 and the entire 2020 edition during the first outbreak of COVID-19 in India. Mumbai Indians have successfully defended their IPL title and clinched their fifth trophy after thrashing Delhi Capitals by five wickets in the final in Dubai. Brilliant hostile bowling led by Trent Boult took MI to victory, now the most successful team in IPL history.
