From Warner to Pollard: Players who are likely to miss the UAE leg of IPL 2021

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) last month had decided to conduct the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) in the UAE. The authorities said that the tournament, which was suspended when several players and staff members tested positive for COVID-19, will take place during a safe window. However, with the T20 World Cup coming up and international schedules colliding, several players might not participate in the UAE leg of the tournament.

The English Cricket Board (ECB) director Ashley Giles had said that the board won’t allow its players to participate in the second phase. The Bangladesh Cricket Board took a similar stand. Cricket Australia is yet to confirm the status of their players participating in the league. However, the stance could be similar with regards to their participation in live cricket.

Players associated with the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) are doubtful for their fixtures are likely to collide with that of IPL. BCCI has already asked the West Indies Cricket Board to prepone the tournament.

If the cricket boards pull out, the IPL might take place, if it does, without some of the biggest names. From West Indies’ limited overs skipper Kieron Pollard to Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Glenn Maxwell, several players will miss the league. However, an official response or schedule by the BCCI is yet to come.

Here is a complete list of players who are likely to miss the remainder of the Indian Premier League-

Chennai Super Kings:

Sam Curran, Moeen Ali, Jason Behrendorff, Mitchell Santner, Dwayne Bravo

One of the teams to be hit hard by the absence of their key players in the second half of the season will be CSK. MS Dhoni and co. will be without the likes of top all-rounders Sam Curran and Moeen Ali. They will further miss Jason Behrendorff and Mitchell Santner, who are yet to leave their mark for the team from Chennai. Lastly, the Men In Yellow will be missing West Indian star Dwayne Bravo, who has been rather injury prone in recent times.

Delhi Capitals

Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Shimron Hetmyer, Tom Curran, Sam Billings

Along with Sam Curran, his brother Tom will not be returning as well. To add to that, Steve Smith and Marcus Stoinis will not be coming back from Australia too. Shimron Hetmyer and Sam Billings will be the other stars missing from the squad for this second phase.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Glenn Maxwell, Daniel Sams, Daniel Christian, Kane Richardson, Adam Zampa

The star all-rounder that RCB paid hell load of money for, Glenn Maxwell will not be returning to the team. Along with him, Daniel Sams, Daniel Christian and Adam Zampa, along with Kane Richardson will be gone from the squad as well.

Mumbai Indians

Chris Lynn, Kieron Pollard, Nathan Coulter-Nile

The Mumbai Indians team will be the least impacted one. Though they will lose Chris Lynn and Nathan Coulter-Nile, their key miss will be Kieron Pollard, who won them a game single-handedly in the first half of the season.

Rajasthan Royals

Liam Livingstone, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Jos Butler, Mustafizur Rahman, Andrew Tye

The team from Rajasthan will be the worst hit team in the IPL, along with CSK. They will be losing Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer and Jos Butler. These three English stars will be key to their cause. Their absence will really hurt the team a lot. Apart from that, their pace spearhead Mustafizur Rahman will not be allowed to come back by the Bangladeshi board as well. His absence could hurt them a lot too. Apart from these stars, Liam Livingstone and Andrew Tye will be absentees too.

Punjab Kings

Dawid Malan, Chris Gayle, Moises Henriques, Jhye Richardson, Chris Jordan, Riley Meredith

The team from Punjab will lose some of their key stars. Batsmen Dawid Malan and Chris Gayle will be severely missed. Along with them, Henriques, Jhye Richardson, Chris Jordan and Riley Meredith will be the other key absentees from the squad. This will really weaken their team quite a bit.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Eoin Morgan, Shakib Al-Hasan, Andre Russell, Ben Cutting, Sunil Narine, Pat Cummins

Another team that will be really impacted by the loss of their players is going to be KKR. The team will lose skipper Eoin Morgan, who had a nightmare in the IPL 2021 tournament so far. Further, Shakib Al-Hasan, Andre Russell, along with Ben Cutting and Sunil Narine will be out as well. The biggest loss to the team however will surely be of Pat Cummins who was one of their highly paid stars this year.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

David Warner, Jason Roy, Jason Holder, Jonny Bairstow

SRH will be without the services of dropped skipper David Warner. Further, Jason Roy and Jason Holder will be missing from the team as well. Jason Roy’s batting partner Jonny Bairstow will be also watching the second part of the IPL 2021 tournament from home.
