Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko has been among the priority targets of the Premier League champions to sign this summer for a £35m worth contract.
Following a series of negotiations, both teams are finally on course to complete the deal as soon personal terms with the player have been finalized.
With Bakayoko’s move into Stamford Bridge, Nemanja Matic on the other hand is set to depart and is expected to close a deal with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.
The 22-year-old player becomes the most expensive midfielder in Chelsea’s history as the club aims to give Antonio Conte a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts.
The French international joined Monaco from Ligue 1 Rennes in 2014 and has made his France debut in an international friendly defeat by Spain last March.
Bakayoko was also part of Monaco’s squad that reached the Champions league semi-finals last season.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have also expressed interest in signing former striker Romelu Lukaku who could cost Conte £100m.
Lukaku’s has earlier told agent Mino Raiola that he wants to leave Everton and move back to Chelsea, where he was part of the club from year 2011 to 2014.
