Lionel Messi ties with Gerd Muller for having the most goals for one league in the top five European leagues with his 525th point in Barca’s 2-0 win over Villarreal.

Muller scored his 525th goal for German club Bayern Munich between the timeline of 1965 and 1979—a record which remained neither unparalleled nor unbeaten for almost four decades.

However, Messi’s goal at the Estadio de la Caramica drew him level with the retired and legendary Bayern striker.

In the battle against Villarreal, Barca took the lead through Luis Suarez after Daniel Raba had been shown a straight red card for the home side for a challenge on Sergio Busquests.

Messi then ensured that his side will have more advantage in the second half as he delivered home at the 83rd minute of the rally.

The goal marked Argentinian’s 14th in the domestic league and 18th across all competitions for his club.

Barca’s wins were certainly important as the club aims to get back to their winning ways, after a back-to-back draw against Valencia and Celta Vigo.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are hosting Deportivo La Coruna in the coming weekend (for the best betting tips, check out 12BET).
