Portugal thrashed on penalties as Chile traverse to FCC Final

Chile
Portugal were hammered by Chile on penalties after keeper Claudio Bravo pulled off impressive stunts to save three penalties from Ricardo Quaresma, Joao Moutinho and Nani.
Chile manager Juan Antonio Pizzi had predicted, “It’s going to be a beautiful semi-final.” And so he was right.
Both teams headed into the battle with verve as Chile attempt to steal the spotlight. Portugal responded to this through Cristiano Ronaldo who teed up Andre Silva at the back post. But Bravo reacted promptly at the sight of threat and denied Silva.
The only other opportunity for Portugal was at the hands of Charles Aranguiz, but no luck for coach Santos’ team.
Despite the bright start, both sides still seemed unable to find rhythm on the pitch. Players looked exhausted and thus squads remained goalless.
Bravo admitted, “Towards the end we were quite tired but we were still passionate—playing with our head and heart.”
At the end, it was Chile who have had displayed a stronger intent as come to face either Germany or Mexico in the FIFA Confederations Cup final that will unfold in St. Petersburg.
