Gautam Gambhir Makes A Big Statement on Virat Kohli

Gautam Gambhir & Virat Kohli

It is well known that the BCCI recently selected Rohit Sharma as India’s white-ball skipper. As a result, Virat Kohli would now exclusively captain the Indian team in Test matches going forward. In a similar vein, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir claimed that Kohli might become an even more dangerous hitter in limited-overs cricket now that he is no longer burdened with the leadership responsibilities.

Further, it is also well known that Kohli is going through a difficult period in his batting career, with his most recent century coming in a match against Bangladesh in April 2019. King’s 71st century, as well as a slew of runs off his bat, have been eagerly anticipated by the crowd. He has had a good cricket match (third Test against South Africa) so far.

“It is the same as Rohit Sharma’s job in red-ball cricket; the only difference is that there is no captaincy. It has the potential to open up even more time for Virat Kohli. With the responsibility of leadership no longer on his shoulders, he could just become more dangerous in white-ball cricket,” Gautam Gambhir remarked on the Star Sports programme Follow the Blues.

I have no doubts that Virat Kohli will bring honour to India: Gautam Gambhir.

It is well known that Kohli is one of the most physically fit cricketers on the planet, and his desire to put in extra effort in the coming days will not diminish in any way. According to Gambhir, Kohli’s intensity would not wane even if he is not captaining the team in the One-Day Internationals, who spoke up on the same subject. When India takes on South Africa in their next assignment, the 33-year-old will be expected to demonstrate his maturity and poise.

“We are certain that he will make India proud and that he will continue to score runs in white-ball cricket as well as in red-ball cricket. At the same time, two separate men will most likely be expressing their own opinions and providing their own vision for the squad,” according to Gambhir’s explanation.

“I am certain that India will see the best of Virat Kohli, whether it is in red-ball cricket or white-ball cricket. At the same time, the sort of enthusiasm and intensity he has shown over such a long period of time will continue to be evident in Virat Kohli, regardless of whether he is the captain or not,” he added.

Now, it remains to be seen what happens in the Indian team going forward. India has started off the Test series against South Africa quite positively.

The Latest Update On The Three-Match Series Against The Proteas

Team India has the advantage in this final Test of the three-match series. They lead by 70 runs at the end of the second day and will want to get a substantial lead, with three days of cricket left to play. The visitors have lost just a couple of wickets and will be happy with how things are at present.

On the other hand, the hosts will be keen on getting some quick wickets in the opening session of day 3. If Virat Kohli is able to get a win in this game, he would become the first Indian skipper to win an away Test series in South Africa. This will be a really huge feat and the prediction made by Gambhir would further hold true.

However, if Team India ends up losing this game and the series eventually, the fans may start backing the decision to drop King Kohli from the skipper’s role, from the shorter formats of the game. It is a double edged sword at the moment and things could go either way.

Despite that, the Team India faithful will want the team to win at any cost, as it would be something historic that they would achieve. With that being said, it will be upto the middle-order of the Indian team to produce something special now.

They are in charge of the situation and will have to bat responsibly once again to take a big lead. If they can put up a good score for the Proteas to chase, there is enough time still left to play and it could give them the clear advantage in this cricket match.
