Gautam Gambhir Names The Most Under-Rated Player In The KRR Squad

The IPL is just round the corner and the teams are ready to go. The new season of the competition starts off with the Mumbai Indians facing off against the Chennai Super Kings on the 19th of September. There has been a lot of controversy going around the tournament. The pandemic is another factor that comes into play, as the tournament will now be held in the UAE.
A lot of former players have been giving their opinions of the IPL 2020 tournament. One such ex-star is Indian opener and World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir. The cricketer-turned-politician likes to keep talking about the game and expresses his opinions on social media, more often than not.
One more opinion that he recently shared was about an under-rated player. Gambhir spoke about a player that he felt was often neglected by everyone. This is despite all the impressive performances that he has been putting so far.
The player is none other than Afghanistan international Mohammed Nabi. The all-rounder had a great CPL tournament. He managed to score a tally of 156 runs, taking 12 wickets to his name as well. He was part of the St Lucia Zouks.
Gambhir spoke on Star Sports during Cricket Connected and said, “According to me, he is the most underrated player in T20 cricket. You talk about Kieron Pollard, AB de Villiers, Rashid Khan, or David Warner but if you see his contribution, he is a brilliant fielder, gives you four overs with the ball, bowls in the first six overs, bats at No.5 or No.6, and can play the big shots.”
He further went on to add, “We talk about Andre Russell as a quality all-rounder but Mohammad Nabi probably may not be in that category but he is not that far behind. Because he comes from Afghanistan, who do not play that much cricket, so people do not rate him that much.”
Well, the player indeed is very talented and skilled, as he has shown in recent times. He has been putting in some solid performances at the domestic and international level too. However, each tournament is a fresh start and the venue now is the UAE.
It will not be the same as the Indian wickets, which tend to be spin-friendly. On the other hand, Nabi has proved himself around the world in all competitions that he has part of. Hence, he will be ready for this new challenge.
Nabi is part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team in the IPL currently. He has a lot of big players playing around him, from a host of countries. Gambhir added that though the player does not get too many opportunities due to the likes of Warner, Jonny Bairstow, Rashid Khan, and Kane Williamson in the SRH squad, he still does quite well. That is exactly where his temperament and capability are visible. Due to this, Gambhir rates him very highly and feels that he can really play a key role in his team’s success.
Things have worked out well for the player, with the limited opportunities that he has got. His team will be hoping that he can continue to deliver in the days to come. For now, the tournament will be starting from the 19th of September. The Mumbai Indians face off the Chennai Super Kings in the opening day fixture.
The matches will be expected to be intense as always. The only problem will be the fact that there will be no fans. The pandemic has already caused a lot of problems for the CSK camp. Luckily, the other teams have not been impacted as much as the runners-up from last season.

MS Dhoni and co. will want to win another IPL title this term. However, they will be without some of their top picks and key players. It will not be an easy task for the former Indian captain. With that being said, if anyone can deliver the impossible, it is surely MSD.
