Harbhajan Singh reveals what he will do when he meets Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin once again showed why he is one of the best in business. There was some great cricket news, as he became the fastest India bowler to pick up 400 wickets in Test cricket. He is now fourth in the list of highest wicket-takers in Test cricket for India. If Ashwin manages to pick up 34 wickets more, then he will move past Harbhajan Singh and Kapil Dev and sit in second place in the list of highest wicket-takers in Test cricket for India.
Now, another legendary off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has lauded Ashwin for reaching this milestone. Bhajji stated that Test cricket is a test of a player’s mindset and skill and picking up 400 wickets is an incredible achievement. He was himself one of those players who could single-handedly win a cricket match. Ashwin is such a bowler too.

Harbhajan also said that he will be calling Ashiwn a legend when he meets him the next time. He also said that it’s not about the numbers, and Ashwin would have been a legend even if he had not picked up 400 wickets. He has single-handedly won so many matches for Team India. He even expressed his happiness at the gesture of Indian captain Virat Kohli calling Ashwin a ‘legend’.

“Taking 400 wickets is a very big thing. That too in Test cricket, a format which tests you mentally, physically and in every other way. Due to that, to dismiss 400 batsmen in that and win the team match after match is a huge thing. There is no doubt that R Ashwin is a legend. Even if he had not taken 400 wickets, it was not that he would not have been considered a legend because he has won India so many matches. It was great to hear Virat Kohli saying that he will be calling Ashwin a legend going forward. I will also be doing the same when I meet him next time.”

Harbhajan said that a bowler’s main role is to pick up wickets and the most important part of the role is to dismiss the main batsman from the opposition team. He stated that Joe Root and Ben Stokes are the main batsmen of the English team. Ashwin has dismissed both of them repeatedly not just now, but right from the time he has been playing. Harbhajan wishes for Ashwin’s success and that he continues to dismiss the opposition batsmen.
“A bowler’s main task is to take wickets. That too the one which is most essential for the team, the main batsman from the opposition team. If I see this England batting, there are two big names in Ben Stokes and Joe Root. They have the ability to take England to a situation from where they can control the match. So, R Ashwin has a greater responsibility to get them out. He has not just done that now but has done very well from the time he has been playing. I pray that he continues doing so going ahead.”
Will The 40-Year Old Impress In IPL 2021 For KKR?
The Indian spinner has done it all. He has had a long and illustrious career that now is coming to an end. Despite that, he has been picked for IPL 2021 by KKR. The team from Kolkata feels that that they need to services of Bhajji and have made the buy in the IPL auction.
It could be a difference maker for them if Harbhajan Singh can perform in the upcoming tournament. He has part of the CSK squad last year, though he opted out of the competition due to family/personal reasons. With that being said, the off-spinner has not played a lot of cricket since his retirement from international cricket.
Despite that, he will be hoping to impress in the upcoming tournament. It could be one of his final few IPL tournaments depending on his fitness levels.
