India vs Australia First Test: Cricket Betting Preview

The first of the four-match test series between India and Australia starts a short while from now at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. The recent head-to-head stats of matches played in India between these two teams are unmistakably in India’s favour. It has been a while since in Australia won a cricket match in India. In fact, they are on a nine-match losing streak in Asia in tests. On the other hand, India have not lost a test match in India, against any team, since August 2012 – that is, an unbeaten run of 20 matches in which they have won 17 and drawn three. The stats clearly guide you for placing online bets: the chances of India losing the series are slim. However, if any team can beat India in India other than South Africa, it is going to be Australia.

Preview – India

Indian will go with five bowlers for the slow, low and dry pitch in Pune – three spinners and two pacers. It would mean Jayant Yadav playing along with R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma. The batting line-up looks impressive as well: M Vijay, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane. There is no weakness in this team.  If India win the toss and India’s openers form a 50+ partnership, it will be really tough for the Aussies. It is better to wait till the first session before making your move in betting.

Preview – Australia

Australia have a new-look, confident team that has done well in the test series at home against Pakistan. However, the India pitches are the toughest for the Australian players, especially for their batsmen. Even some of the otherwise bonafide great Australian batsmen have struggled here – for instance, Ricky Ponting. It would not be a surprise if Steve Smith and company fail in this trip. Smith himself is vulnerable against spin, especially left-arm spin. His batting technique of covering his stumps entirely could leave him a sitting duck against Jadeja’s left-arm off-spin. Shaun Marsh appears the most likely player to succeed in India. If David Warner can find a method to his madness, Australia can post a decent score. The Australian spin bowlers may not be as effective as their Indian counterparts.

It is clear-cut advantage for India. Australia need to discover some new heroes for this tour. But that is too much to ask for from this team. The safe option here is to trust Kohli and his men for cricket betting.
