IPL 2022 to introduce Gujarati commentary

Aside from the debut of two new teams, the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will introduce Gujarati commentary for the first time since the cash-rich tournament started. This move has been taken following the launch of Gujarat Lions, one of the two new IPL 2022 teams. This year’s IPL will also include commentary in Bengali and Malayalam on the weekends.
“We all want to show how this IPL is different from the previous 14 and what is new in it. This time IPL will have commentary in Bengali and Malayalam on Saturday and Sunday,” said Sanjog Gupta, Head (Sports) of Disney Star. Apart from this, the Gujarat team is new, so we are doing Gujarati commentary for the first time.” Follow us for more betting tips, odds and predictions.
The 15th edition of the tournament will now feature commentators across languages including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Bengali, and Gujarati, while Disney Star will telecast this season across nine languages. “I am excited to be back in the commentary box after five years,” said former India coach and cricketer, Ravi Shastri, part of the commentary panel.
Reports claim that the likes of former wicket keeper-batter Nayan Mongia, veteran all-rounder Irfan Pathan, ex-stumper, and the chairman of selectors Kiran More and one of the popular radio jockeys of Gujarat will also be featured in the Gujarati commentary panel. It is also learnt that all Gujarat matches and play-offs on the weekend will be in the Gujarati language.
The IPL 2022 season begins on March 26 with last year’s finalists Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders as the curtain-raiser at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. The 10-team tournament will compete in 70 matches across four venues in two Maharashtra cities, divided into two groups. CSK is the reigning champion, having won their fourth IPL title in the 2021 season.
