Lyon has revealed that transfer talk with Liverpool to sign midfield Nabil Fekir has already ended and that he will stay at the club.

Fekir was expected to move to Anfield and join Liverpool before Les Bleus left for the World Cup in Russia but the French club called off the deal.

A Lyon statement read: “Transfer negotiations with Liverpool and Nabil Fekir for the transfer of the captain of OL have not succeeded and Olympique Lyonnais have decided to put an end to this negotiation tonight at 8pm.

“Although Liverpool have been the priority of a possible transfer for Nabil…Olympique Lyonnais is delighted to be able to count on the presence of our captain, who is a leading player for the 2018/19 season when the club will play in the Champions League.”

With the confirmation the Fekir will remain at Lyon, club president Jean-Michel Aulas expressed  his support in a tweet that said, “We love you Nabil, come on France, come on Lyon!”

The France international has managed to score 21 goals with nine assists in 39 appearances for Lyon in the recently concluded Ligue 1 tournament.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool officially announced the signing of Monaco star player Fabinho for £43.7m this summer.
