Marsh hospitalized as DC camp COVID outbreak worsens

Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been admitted to hospital as several other members of his Indian Premier League (IPL) side Delhi Capitals are plagued with infection. The 30-year-old played his first IPL match of the new season on Saturday before returning with a positive Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). “Delhi Capitals allrounder Mitchell Marsh has tested positive for COVID-19, following which he has been admitted to a hospital,” DC said in a statement. The Delhi Capitals medical team is closely monitoring Marsh’s condition. A few more members from the Delhi Capitals bio-bubble, including support staff members, have returned positive tests as well.”

The team added that the remaining members are already in isolation in their hotel rooms and will be tested regularly. Cricket Australia has confirmed that they are “closely monitoring” Marsh’s condition and they are in communication with DC. “The Delhi Capitals have confirmed Mitchell Marsh is in hospital recovering,” the statement read.

“All contracted Australian players are currently on leave and are participating in the IPL with approval from Cricket Australia. CA medical staff will be in contact with DC and are assured he is in the best of care as he recovers,” the statement added. Marsh last played for Australia in a Test match in 2019 but he remains a key part of Australia’s white-ball teams

Delhi are next due to face the Punjab Kings this week. The upcoming fixtures could also be postponed if the situation in DC camps worsens following IPL’s strict measures. It is learnt that the IPL last year was suspended midway through the tournament following the outbreaks of the virus in team camps. The remainder of the tournament was played in UAE, the same host of the whole 2020 edition.
