Parthiv Patel makes a huge statement about Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2021
The defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) are one of the firm favourites to win the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The tournament is scheduled between April 9 and May 30. Mumbai Indians will face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the opening clash of the tournament. It should be the perfect match to start and hopefully a great game of live cricket.
Just before the start of IPL 2021, former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel analysed the Mumbai Indians squad in detail. That is something that a lot of Pundits have been doing, as they have seemed nearly unbeatable for the last two seasons. Patel has recently joined the team as a talent scout. He feels that Mumbai Indians have a strong squad and all the players whether domestic or overseas have been in a good run of form recently. That is why they can win any IPL match.
This year, the Board Of Cricket Control In India (BCCI) has decided to host all the matches in neutral venues so that no team gets the home advantage. Hence, MI will kick-start their IPL 2021 campaign with their opening match against RCB in Chennai.
While talking about MI, Patel said that some people might feel that MI need to rope in an extra spinner in their XI as they are playing in Chennai. However, they do not need to make a very drastic change in their XI as they also have options in their bowling line up in the form of Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard.
Parthiv Patel praises both the MI spinners Krunal Pandya and Rahul Chahar on Star Sports show GAME PLAN
According to Patel, both the MI spinners Krunal Pandya and Rahul Chahar have been in very good form lately. So, they will be looking to perform well in this year’s IPL. They both seem to be genuine game-changers and that is some really positive for the Indian team.
Parthiv Patel spoke in a recent interview about the duo, where he said, “I do not think Mumbai Indians will be thinking of where they are playing next. All the teams would be thinking about where they are playing first and you know, try and get their best team forward, try and get their best XI on a path.”
“If they are playing in Chennai, you might expect some spinner but from the Mumbai Indians point of view, I do not think they have to tinker a lot with their playing XI because Hardik Pandya is bowling quite a bit now, almost bowling four overs, Pollard bowls his slower ones really well, which might be useful on a Chennai wicket.
“Obviously, Rahul Chahar had an outstanding IPL, a couple of outstanding IPLs and hence, he was picked for India. Krunal Pandya’s four overs, his form in domestic cricket, so I can go on and on about it.”
What next for these two stars with the IPL 2020 tournament coming up?
The Mumbai Indians will be trying to defend their IPL title for the third time in a row. They are the most-well-balanced side in the league and will want to keep winning. Rohit Sharma has been a great influence on his players and the likes of Chahar and Pandya have flourished under his captaincy in recent times. He would be delighted to see them do well in the Indian team as well and will want them to regularly feature at the top level.
With the T20 World Cup coming up, Team India needs to explore all the options that can be available, as and when needed. The upcoming IPL season could also help new talents establish themselves at the top level. The players who can leave their mark in the upcoming competition might get picked for the World Cup squad if the need does arise.
Also, it will be a fact that Team India will be looking at the 50-over World Cup as well, which will be held on home soil in 2023. Keeping all these factors in mind, things will be really interesting with the upcoming edition of the IPL to start on the 9th of April. Let’s see how things plan out in the months to follow, with the pandemic in full-flow yet again.
