Ricky Pointing Makes A Comment On How The Delhi Capitals Can Succeed In IPL 2020

Over the years, the Delhi Capitals have invested heavily in youth. This has been a well-known fact, though they have failed to make a real impact. Success has not been something that they have been really able to achieve in the Indian Premier League. However, one good season in the competition can change all that. Also, the venue this time isn’t in India and there were will no fans in the stadiums.
Formerly known as Delhi Daredevils, the side from India’s capital city is looking the potential based side in the IPL once again. On course of the IPL 2020, the franchise never gave a stern challenge to other teams in the tournament. They have never really been able to at least get to be a regular playoff spot. After significant investment on the team, the team started to flourish.
Just when the investments started paying off last season when the team came an applauding third place with star-kid Shreyas Iyer leading the pack the management decided to bring in two veterans namely, Ajinkya Rahane and Ravinchandra Ashwin. While Ashwin is most-likely brought to create the required depth of spin-bowling in the team along with Amit Mishra and Axar Patel, introduction of Rahane looks a little bit off. The team needed to strength in the bowling but with a batsmen introduction they have to think to place him in.
Australian great Ricky Pointing is a more result-driven coach and he likes impact players with a more youth blood in it. National team player Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw are his favourite choice in the youth set up. He wants to bring in a lot of fresh energy in the team to go for the title or at least make the playoff this time out. However, the scenario is tricky.
Now with Rahane, Pointing is having a player who is formerly now a Test format player. It is quite unlikely he will get the rhythm to play in a hard hitting format. Someone who’s is not called for his duties in the 20 over games in recent outings. Due to this, there might be a few changes expected to balance things out in the long-run.
Plus, Rahane is a top order batsman and the place is crowded. The constant inclusion of Rishab Pant itself will push the Maharashtra born batsman in that place only. Fitting him in the batting order with Shikhar Dhawan and Shaw will be an issue. Iyer at No. 3 and Pant at No. 4 is the expected line-up. Ponting is also counting on his countrymen Glenn Maxwell who has been his choice over the years. Maxwell’s ruthless batting will help them lift in crucial stages.
The problem still remains with Ajinkya Rahane, as the team will have to find a solution for him. Pointing is surely keen on relying on youth to do their show in the upcoming season at UAE so it is featured that the veteran will be left out for majority of matches and will only be called if required to fill in gaps for injuries, unavailability or to bench off form players. Only time will tell how Delhi Capital handle Rahane and balance things out.
The next edition of the IPL is about to start and things could get quite interesting now. The teams will want to put in a solid showing. The current edition was initially expected to be held in March. However, it was postponed due to the pandemic and the fans will not be able to watch it from the stadium.
Though that may be a huge loss for the franchise owners, it may reduce the pressure on the young talents. The starlets may perform better and have a chance of making a name for themselves. Let’s wait and watch what happens now. Only time will tell how things are handled by this team that is propelled by youth.
