Defending champion Andy Murray was stunned by world No. 90 Jordan Thompson in the first round of the Aegon Championships.

Murray lost the match with 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 victory in an astonishing upset in front of the crowd at London’s Queen’s Club.

The world No.1 had been scheduled to play with Aljaz Bedene in his opening match of the grass court season but the British No. 4 pulled out with a wrist injury.

That’s the time that Thompson came in to the game and showed no fear to produce a stunning victory against Murray.

It is the first time that the 30-year-old Murray has lost his opening match at Queen’s Club since 2012 over world No. 92 Guillermo Garcia Lopez.

In fact, Murray has ninth defeat already this year and sixth of it were against the opponent that are ranked outside the top 20.

For the Australian tennis player, he admitted it that it was the biggest win of his career.

Thompson finished the match in just an hour and 43 minutes to end the British 14-match winning streak on grass and his 10-match unbeaten run at Queen’s.

Meanwhile, second seeded Swiss Stan Wawrinka and the third seeded Milos Raonic of Canada made a losing start of their grass-court seasons in their first round matches.

Wawrinka was beaten by the former finalist Feliciano Lopez of Spain with a 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 win and Australian wildcard Thanasi Kokkinakis stunned the last year’s runner-up Raonic in a thrilling 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (10-8) match.
