World number three Karolina Pliskova bows out of Wimbledon Championships after losing to Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia.

Pliskova arrived at the All England Club as one of the favorite to win the title after she won the Aegon International at Eastbourne but her hopes were ended when the Czech suffered a surprise 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 defeat to Rybarikova.

The 28-year-old Slovakian showed her best tennis to battled back from a set down to rally to reach the third round at the Centre Court.

“I am speechless right now. It’s obviously an amazing feeling for me, and I’m so happy. It was very difficult to play Karolina Pliskova. I was not so confident. It’s tough to describe. I beat someone who is No.3 in the world right now, who she’s playing amazing tennis, on the Centre Court at Wimbledon. Nothing could be better. I’m very pleased and very happy.” Rybarikova said in her post-match press conference

Rybarikova will now face the world No. 35 Lesia Tsurenko from Ukraine for the spot in the last 16.

Meanwhile, top seeded Angelique Kerber is now through to the next round after beating the Belgian tennis player Kirsten Flipkens with a 7-5, 7-5 straight sets victory.
