Three-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic is now through to the fourth round of Wimbledon after beating Latvian Ernest Gulbis in straight sets on Centre Court.
Djokovic sealed his place in the next round with a comfortable 6-4, 6-1, and 7-6 (7-2) over Gulbis in two hours and 11 minutes to reached the Wimbledon fourth round for the 10th time.
The 30-year-old Serb rallied from 4-2 down in the opening set of the match but he was very satisfied with his performance.
“Gulbis is someone that is very unpredictable and has a huge serve, a very powerful and fast game from back of the court. It’s not easy to play against him on this surface. I’m really pleased that I managed to win in straight sets, especially since he started serving better in the third set. He kind of gave it a last shot. I thought he played a good level of tennis, but I managed to hang on and play a very good tie-break. That only can boost my confidence level for whatever is coming up next.” Said Djokovic
Djokovic extends his head to head battle against Gulbis to 7-1 where he won their past five matches and now picks up his 236th win at a major tournament.
Moving forward, Djokovic will proceed to the round of 16 and he will face 51st ranked Adrian Mannarino of France for a place in the quarterfinals.
Mannarino continued his grass-court play by defeating fellow Frenchman and 15th seeded Gael Monfils by 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 in three hours and 30 minutes.
