Wasim Akram Heaps Praise On Babar Azam

Wasim Akram, a former Pakistani fast bowler, has lavished praise on the country’s current captain, Babar Azam. He went on to say that the twenty-first century belongs to Babar Azam, under whose leadership Pakistan cricket has continued to prosper and bloom. There has been no doubt that the Asian side has been trying to regain some momentum and the cricket news coming in is really positive.
Babar Azam’s team secured a recent 3-0 triumph against the West Indies at home. Babar is presently placed in the top 10 of the International Cricket Council rankings in each of the three formats. He has been performing really well, producing some of the best live cricket that is on display at present.
However, Akram believes that Babar still has much more to accomplish and that his present purple patch is just the beginning of something much larger that is in store for him.
The praises by the former Pakistan skipper for the current captain of the team
A legend in his own right, Akram commended Babar’s work ethic while also praising his will to excel in whatever he did during his life. The team has been performing really well in recent times and has been building a global fan-base for itself with the performances that they have managed to put up.
If they continue to work hard, they could win some more major trophies in the days to follow. However, for that to happen, the level of performances and the commitment to the game needs to be maintained.
“I have worked with him at the Karachi Kings for the last three years and he climbed up through the ranks with me. Work ethic is something I like in him. He is focused and never content with his performance, which is a hallmark of a strong leader in my opinion. I understood at the time that with this youngster, with his work ethic, and with his potential, he would absolutely produce and be the best,” said Akram to sports360.
In the meanwhile, he has become an integral element of The Fab Four.” With the likes of [Virat] Kohli, [David] Warner, [Joe] Root, and Babar, they’re on the rise. Kohli is right up there with Babar,” he said.
“Moreover, he compared Babar to previous Pakistani superstars, saying: “If you speak about Pakistan batting, you start with Zaheer Abbas, Javed Miandad, Saleem Malik, Inzamam-Ul-Haq, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousaf and then you get to the present day with Babar Azam. His name is Babar Azam, and he is the guy who will guide you through the twenty-first century. As well as the fact that he has lots of cricket left in him,” he said.
What next for the Asian side that will want to make an impact in the upcoming T20 World Cup?
With Babar as captain, Pakistan had an outstanding performance at the T20 World Cup, which took place in the United Arab Emirates earlier this year. The Asian team advanced to the semi-finals by winning all five of their Super12 matches, which included wins against India and New Zealand. Pakistan, on the other hand, was unable to advance to the final after losing the crucial shootout against Australia. All of this being stated, Babar had a fantastic year in 2021 as a batter and as a leader.
With the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia, the Pakistani team will want to prove a point. They had become one of the positives from the recently concluded tournament in the middle-east. However, they will want to keep up this form going into the upcoming edition, which will be the last major tournament before the 50-over World Cup in 2023.
Pakistan has been keen on making a strong impact for the long run. They have been focused on developing young talents that can be part of their international side for the year to come. With that being said, players like Babar Azam could be crucial in making such a dream come true.
It will be interesting to see how things develop with regards to this team. They got a lot of attention for their performances in the UAE and Oman. Let’s wait and watch to see if they can do so yet again in the days to come. Only time will tell!!
